John Mosier, a professor of English at Loyola University in New Orleans, is the author, most recently, of Verdun: The Lost History of the Most Important Battle of World War I, 1914–1918 (NAL Caliber, 2013), and Deathride, a reevaluation of the war between Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Russia (Simon & Schuster 2010).

    His other books include Cross of Iron: The Rise and Fall of the German War Machine, 1918-1945 (Henry Holt/John Macrae Books), Grant, part of Gen. Wesley K.
