Lewis L. Gould is Emeritus Professor of History and a Fellow of the Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin. He is well known as an authority on the American presidency. He taught courses on the Gilded Age, the progressive era, Lyndon Johnson and his Times, and first ladies in the twentieth century, winning several awards for Distinguished Undergraduate and Graduate Teaching.
Gould is the author of numerous works on American history and politics, including Grand Old Party: A History of the Republicans (Random House) and, most recently, The Most Exclusive Club: A History of the Modern U.S. Senate (Basic).
