H. W. Brands

 

H. W. Brands is the author of twenty-two books, most recently the 2009 Pulitzer Prize finalist, Traitor to His Class: The Privileged Life and Radical Presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Doubleday).

     His other books include The Money Men: Capitalism, Democracy and the Hundred Years War over the American Dollar (Norton); Andrew Jackson: His Life and Times, a New York Times bestseller and a Chicago Tribune Best Book of 2005 (Doubleday); The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin (Doubleday), a Pulitzer Prize finalist and New York Times bestseller; Lone Star Nation: The Epic Story of the Battle for Texas Independence (Doubleday); The Age of Gold: The California Gold Rush and the New American Dream (Doubleday), a Washington Post Best Book of 2002; and T.R.: The Last Romantic (Basic).

    Brands, who holds the Dickson Allen Anderson Centennial Professorship of History at the University of Texas at Austin, is a regular guest on national television and radio programs, a frequent essayist and book reviewer, and a contributor to publications such as Atlantic Monthly, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and other leading publications.
